Be Aware of Increased Law Enforcement Over Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend is here, which means that plenty of people will be hitting the road to celebrate the three-day weekend. Drivers should be aware that police in Connecticut are preparing for the weekend, too, increasing their efforts to make sure that nobody is breaking the law and other drivers on the road are safe.

Labor Day Weekend is often associated with family get-togethers, barbecues, parties, and more, all potentially involving consumption of alcohol. With the increased risk of drunk driving, the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection released a statement informing drivers of the preparations being taken by Connecticut State Troopers. The focus will be on drunk driving, seatbelt violations, distracted driving, and speeding, as well as other behaviors exhibited by dangerous drivers.

It’s easy to see why there is an increased effort to prepare for dangerous driving this weekend: more than 35 million drivers nationwide are expected to travel. When you consider how many are dangerous drivers, law enforcement figures to be out in full force throughout the entire nation.

Troopers for the state will be conducting sobriety checkpoints to make sure drivers are not intoxicated. They will also utilize the State Police Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit (BAT Mobile) and increase the roving patrols.

The statement released by the DESPP made one point very clear: never get behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking. They recommend getting a designated driver or having a plan to get a taxi or stay wherever you are drinking.
